The edge of the Grand Canyon is a place that will forever be associated with hilarity for me. Everyone was such a dummy there, in the face of that incomprehensible chasm. Nobody had anything deep to say. The stillness of stone stretched into haze vaguely, like it was a memory already, before the first tour bus even showed up. We never did anything with our obligatory Grand Canyon selfies. They have so little to do with the feeling of being there.
